FIFA denies Akon’s official role in World Cup

The media is full of reports that the song "Oh Africa", performed by Akon and Keri Hilson, is the official 2010 World Cup anthem. Well, according to the English "express.co.uk" Fifa actually denies that Akon has any offical role at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The article is futhermore saying that the official anthem will only be presented in April 2010... I just listened to the track and I must say I desperately HOPE that "Oh Africa" is NOT the official anthem. It sounds horrible to me. But, hey, not everyone has to like it, but the world is gonna get to listen to the song 24/7 right before, during and after the World Cup. Pls choose wisely, Fifa!

btw - I had a quick look on fifa.com and searched for "Akon". I got seven search results - six refferring to a football club from Madagascar called "Akon´Ambatomena" and one reffering to a pdf about the FIFA World Youth Championship '93 in Australia. Nothing about the Senegalese-American R'n'B artist Akon...

  1. agreed let's hope not!!!...as it really doesn't have that uplifting feel that you need with a football anthem - thanks for the update:)
