Alitalia postpones possible return to South Africa

Italy's flag carrier, Alitalia, announced earlier this year that it might return to South Africa (OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg) from September 2013. In the meantime, the airline got a new CEO, who revised the guidelines for the news industrial plan 2013-2016 of the carrier. According to the plan, the Alitalia is no longer planning to come back to Johannesburg from September, but from some time between Winter 2014 and Winter 2016.
The new intercontinental destinations which may be introduced between Winter 2014 and Winter 2016 are Nairobi, Seoul, Santiago de Chile, San Francisco and Johannesburg from Rome. Shanghai, Abu Dhabi and Osaka from Milan Malpensa; Tokyo from Venice. (Alitalia press release 03 July 2013)
Alitalia is Italy's biggest airline, and the world's 19th. The SkyTeam member's main hub is Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome.
